During the Russian Empire, the name of this street was Police Street. In 1930 it changed to Beria Street, in 1950 it was called Zhdanov, and since 1989 the name has been Episcope Gabriel Street. The former buildings of the City Council and the Executive Committee can be seen in the far right corner of the picture. The street was blocked in 1989 due to the construction of the cathedral, which was finished in 2007.
