Vake is a district in Tbilisi. Its name dates back from 19th century and means a flat place or lowland.

Vake became part of Tbilisi in 1907. Intensive works were done in the 1920s. For a long time, it was only connected to the city centre by Melikishvili Street. In 1957, after the final construction of Varazi Street, Vake was connected to Heroes Square by a wide street.  In 1958, the highway to connect Vake and Saburtalo was built (current Mikheil Tumanishvili Street). 

Nowadays Vake is one of the largest districts of Tbilisi. Vake is home to universities, research centers, and administrative buildings. Vake Park was opened in 1946 and “Mziuri” theme park in 1982.
